These are the best publicly available offers that we have found for each card.

Overall I’ve found that it has become significantly easier to make purchases abroad over the past few years. Going back many years I’d make most of my purchases abroad using cash (which I’d withdraw from an ATM once I arrived at my destination), given how many credit cards had foreign transaction fees, how many places didn’t accept credit cards, etc.

However, I’ve found that has changed significantly over the past several years, to the point that I’ve taken some trips where I haven’t withdrawn any cash at all.

So, what has improved? There are a lot more cards with no foreign transaction fees, a lot of cards offer big bonus points for foreign purchases, and more places than ever before accept credit cards.

However, making sense of credit card foreign transaction fees can be complicated. Reader Jim emailed to share his confusion regarding this, so I figured I’d write a post sharing the basics of getting the best value on credit card purchases abroad:

1.Always use a card with no foreign transaction fees

This should be obvious, but always use a credit card without foreign transaction fees. Cards with foreign transaction fees typically charge a 1-3% fee for the privilege of processing a transaction. Back in the day it was rare for credit cards to have no foreign transaction fees, while nowadays there are so many great cards without these fees, even mid-range cards.

2.Don’t settle for just no foreign transaction fees

While there are Amex cards with great bonus categories, keep in mind that many of these apply exclusively to US purchases.

3. Always pay in local currency

Whenever you make a purchase with a US credit card you’ll be asked whether you want the purchase charged in USD or local currency. This is known as dynamic currency conversion. Always have the purchase charged in the local currency, and not in USD.

This might seem counterintuitive to some, but the reason is because the rate you’re given in USD will almost always be significantly worse than the actual exchange rate. In some cases they just give you a really bad exchange rate, in other cases they add on a fee of a couple of percent, etc.

If you’re using a card with no foreign transaction fees, there’s simply zero reason to ever have them charge you in USD. Also remember that you have the right to make this choice, so never let a merchant force you to pay in USD.

4.Not all foreign exchange fees are created equal

This is where things get a bit complicated. You always want to pay in local currency, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re getting the best conversion rate. Different payment processing systems use different exchange rates, It’s actually not that they’re trying to rip you off, but rather that they take different approaches to foreign transactions:

  • Visa guarantees the exchange rate the day you make the purchase, but has a built in cushion since the transaction typically only posts a couple of days later, so exchange rates could change, meaning there’s some risk for Visa
  • MasterCard charges the exchange rate the day the transaction posts (often a couple of days after the transaction), so since they’re charging whatever the rate is, the cushion is much smaller

Fortunately both processing systems let you view their exchange rates online, so you can crunch the numbers for yourself:

However, I don’t believe Amex has a similar conversion tool.

What’s the moral of the story? For a volatile currency the difference can sometimes be significant, but usually the rates are within one percent of one another. All else being equal I find that MasterCard has better rates than Visa, but often the difference is negligible.

5.Amex isn’t accepted a lot of places

I love Amex cards in general, though it’s important to understand that in a lot of countries Amex cards aren’t widely accepted, especially with smaller merchants. So if you do plan on using an Amex card abroad, be sure you have a backup, since it may not be accepted everywhere.

Bottom line

I know this can be complicated for some, though to simplify it as much as possible:

  • Use a credit card with no foreign transaction fees that offers the most points on dining and travel, which is what many purchases abroad are categorized as, and be prepared for Amex cards not to be accepted
  • Always have transactions processed in the local currency
  • MasterCard conversion rates are sometimes marginally better than Visa conversion rates, though that can easily be offset by a better return in terms of the rewards offered

Anyone have any other tips for using credit cards abroad?

Migrating a Local WordPress Installation to a Live Site Using Duplicator Plugin Tue, 09 May 2017 09:58:11 +0000 […]]]> Using a local server environment will save you a bunch of time if you regularly develop new WordPress websites. Local development has many advantages – it’s faster and more secure than constantly uploading files to a server.

The only problem is migrating to a web host can be a headache. No one likes to mess around with database tables.Fortunately, migration is simpler than it sounds and will take you not time at all if you follow the steps below. In this article, I’ll show you how to use the Duplicator plugin to quickly and easy copy a localhost WordPress installation to an online hosting account.

There are many different ways to migrate a WordPress site, but one of the easiest, by far, is with the free Duplicator plugin.

It’s an overwhelmingly popular plugin in the WordPress Plugin Repository, with a 4.9 out of 5 stars rating and more than 700,000 downloads. In the steps below, I’ll explain and illustrate the steps for migrating a localhost site with Duplicator. The exact steps will differ depending on your online server/host setup.

Before we get started, you’ll need:

An FTP client and login details for your live site.

It’s also important to note that you don’t need to install WordPress on the destination server before following these steps. Duplicator will copy across all necessary WordPress files for you.

Step 1. Package Your Site With Duplicator

Download and install Duplicator on your localhost site. The plugin is available for free in the WordPress Plugin Repository, so you can search for it in the plugin interface.

Download Duplicator

I’m using a beta version of WordPress 4.0, hence why the plugin interface says Duplicator is untested with my version of WordPress.

Once installed and activated, click on “Duplicator” in the admin sidebar and the Duplicator Packages interface will be displayed. Since I’ve just installed Duplicator, I don’t have any packages.

Create package

Create a new package in Duplicator.

So what is a package? A package consists of an archive of your site (the default is a .ZIP file) and an installer file that automates the process of setting up your archived site on another server.

Click on “Create New” to create a package.

The next screen will prompt you to name your package and make a few notes. It’s not really important what you name your package, though you might want to give it a memorable title if you plan to make multiple packages. Add a few notes if you want to.

Duplicator package setup

Duplicator package setup.

There are optional Archive and Installer settings, but we’ll ignore these for now. The Archive settings allow you to filter your database, while the Installer options can be used to pre-fill the Installer screen so that it is setup at install time for future use. This can help speed up your overall install process.

Click “Next” to move on.

Duplicator will run a system scan to ensure the package build process will run smoothly. The scan step can help determine any potential issues. Passing all scan checks aren’t required in order to attempt a build, though the more “Warn” checks you get, the more likely it is you will run into issues during the build and install phases.

The scan didn’t uncover any major issues on my site other than large image files, which I’ll ignore because it’s unlikely the images will cause any problems in upcoming steps.

Duplicator system scan

Duplicator system scan.

Click “Build” to create your package.

The plugin will begin backing up your site.

Building a Duplicator package

Building a Duplicator package.

As mentioned above, Duplicator will produce two files: an archive of your site (as a .ZIP file) and an installer file (as a .PHP file).

Step 2. Copy Installer and Archive Files to Live Site

In order to install and unpack my packaged site, I need to copy the archive and installer files Duplicator created to my live site’s directory. I’m going to use Filezilla to do this with FTP.

Login to your site via FTP. Navigate to your public_html folder and copy the archive and installer files from your desktop to the folder. It may take a little while for the files to copy, especially if your archive file is quite large.

FTP into live site

Copy your Duplicator package files (installer and archive) to your live site.

Step 3. Installing Your Site On Your Live Server

The next step is to install the archived site on the live server. To do this, we’ll need to access the installer file we just copied to the live site, by adding /installer.php to the domain.

In my case, the address is

The installer interface will appear, prompting you to add your MySQL details. If you’re replacing an existing WordPress site (i.e. copying across an updated version of a site), you’ll need to enter your existing database details.

Test connection

Test your database connection to ensure they are correct.

If you’re creating a new site, click “Create New” and enter fresh database details. Some hosting providers don’t allow the database creation option to work, which means you’ll need to manually create the database yourself.

Since my web host won’t let me automatically create a new database, here are the steps for creating a new database in cPanel:

  • In cPanel, open MySQL Database.
  • Create a new database and name it anything you like, though it will have a prefix.
  • Create a new user.
  • Add your newly created user to your newly created database.
  • Give your user access to all privileges and click “Make Changes.”
  • When you’ve filled out your database details, click “Test Connection” to check whether the installer can access your database.

Ensure you get a “Success” manage for both the “Server Connected” and “Database Found” tests before moving on to the next step. This will ensure you won’t encounter any problems during installation.

Test database connection

Make sure you get success for both fields before moving on through the steps.

Click “Close” and at the bottom of the installer screen check “I have read all warnings and notices”. Then click “Run Deployment.”

The installer will then begin installing your site on your live server. It may take a while for the installation process to complete if your site is quite large.

During installation, Duplicator will ask you to confirm old and new details for your site. Make sure they’re correct and click “Run Update.”

Final Duplicator Steps

Duplicator will ask you to complete four more short, yet important, steps:
1. Install Report – This is simply a report detailing any errors encountered (hopefully none!) and the numbers of database tables, rows and cells created, scanned and updated so you can check the plugin has copied across your database information.
2. Save Permalinks – Click on the link “Save Permalinks” link and you’ll be taken to your new, live site where you can save your permalinks preference.
3. Test Site – When you click on “Test Site” it will open the front-end of your live site so you can check that everything is working.
4. File Cleanup – It’s important to remove the installer file and any associated files that were created during the installation process for security purposes. Click on “File Cleanup” to automatically delete these files.

Check Your Live Site

And that’s it. Your live site should now be an exact replica of your localhost installation, only now it’s available online for all the world to see.

Do you use Duplicator to migrate sites? If not, what method works best for you?

How To Create Your Own Vocal-Free Karaoke Tracks Wed, 09 Nov 2016 06:57:55 +0000 […]]]> I’m sure you will agree with me that there’s nothing better for the spirit than karaoke. Whether you like singing or not, once you get over the initial embarrassment and start picturing yourself standing on stage and singing with a real band, it becomes a truly uplifting experience.

Karaoke is not necessarily a group activity – what about karaoke tracks you can listen to in the car, singing along to yourself? Or even while working on your computer? There’s an endless amount of fun to be had with vocal-free tracks.

Somehow, though, it’s always hard to find the ones you really want. YouTube is full of vocal-free tracks, but it’s never the ones you really feel like singing. I’ve always wished I could create my own karaoke tracks from my own favorite songs, but it always seemed like a really complicated task. Something only real audiophiles would be up to. Turns out I was wrong. Creating your own karaoke tracks is actually easy as pie, and takes about 5 to 60 seconds to accomplish, depending on the method you choose.

The songs you create may end up sounding a little bit warped, but hey, no one’s coming to karaoke night for the quality of the music anyway.

Do It Yourself With Audacity [Windows, Mac, Linux]

I’ve been seeing this method around for quite a while, but never believed it actually worked until I tried it. This method is the more satisfying of the two, and works with any audio format you can think of (I tried Mp3 and Ogg, both worked perfectly).

To create karaoke tracks using this method, the first thing you need to do is download Audacity. Audacity is a great audio editor, and works on pretty much any OS. Once you have Audacity, launch it and load the song you want to strip of vocals (File –> Open or File –> Import –> Audio will do the trick).

create karaoke tracks

Once your audio track is loaded, you’ll usually see two blue tracks. These are the two stereo tracks of your song. In order to get rid of the vocals, your first step would be to split these tracks into two separate audio tracks which you can edit individually. To do this, click on the small black triangle on the top left and choose “Split Stereo Track”.

create karaoke songs

Now that you have two separate tracks, double click on one of them (doesn’t matter which) to select all of it. Click the “Effects” menu and choose “Invert”.

create karaoke songs

This will invert the entire track, which will enable us to cancel it out. If you listen to the track now, the vocals will still be there. There’s one step left, and this is the important one: Click on the black triangle for both tracks, and change both of them to Mono.

create karaoke songs

It’s very important that you change them both, otherwise the vocals will not be stripped. That’s it, you can now hit play and listen to your new karaoke track. You can also export it into an audio file to create your custom karaoke playlist (you’ll need the LAME Mp3 encoder if you want to export to MP3).

So how does it work? This method doesn’t work with every song, but it should work with most. Without getting too technical, most songs are recorded on two stereo channels, with some instruments balanced more to the right, and some balanced more to the left. The vocals of the song are usually in the center, therefore appearing on both tracks. When we split the tracks and invert one of them, the vocals on the inverted track cancel out the vocals on the regular track. We then switch them both to mono, and we’re left with only instruments.

If the song you chose uses reverb, you might here a slight echo of the vocals, but this shouldn’t be too much of a problem. If the song you chose is different than most, and the vocals are not dead centered, this method might not work at all. The best way to find out is to give it a try!

For Mp3s & CDs: Karaoke Anything! [Windows]

If you don’t feel like doing the actual work, you can let Karaoke Anything! do it for you. Note, however, that this app only works with audio CDs or Mp3 files, and you can’t load Mp3 playlists, only individual files.

Using Karaoke Anything is dead simple. Launch the app, choose “MP3 Player Mode” or “CD Player Mode” and you’re pretty much done. If you chose to use Mp3 files, click on File –> Open to add your song. Click play, and the song will start playing without any vocals. It’s like magic!

create karaoke tracks

You can use the “Karaoke Effect” slider to control the vocals’ volume, in case you want to be able to hear it but still sing over it without it interfering.

Which One Should You Use?

That really depends. In general, both methods give similar results, although some songs may end up better using one method than the other. If you want to create your own vocal-free files, if you want to use anything other than Mp3s or CDs, or if you’re not using Windows, Audacity is the obvious choice. Otherwise, give Karaoke Anything a try, and you might be able to kick off the party in the time it takes you to download a 2.5MB installer.

How to save a GIF from Twitter Thu, 11 Aug 2016 04:22:04 +0000 […]]]> Twitter has currently no option to save a GIF directly in their app. Another problem is that Twitter GIFs are not real GIFs. They are just videos that automatically play in a loop. However, it is possible to download a Twitter GIF and convert it to a real GIF in just two steps.

First, you need to download the GIF as video. SaveDeo makes that possible:

  1. Go to:
  2. Copy the direct link to the post in the input box
  3. Click download.

Now you have the GIF in the MP4 video format. Next you need to convert the video to a GIF. Therefore you can useEZGIF:

  1. Go to:
  2. Upload the video you just downloaded.
  3. Set the start time to 0
  4. Set the end time to the length of the video.
  5. Click convert to GIF.
  6. Click save to download the file.
How to add an HTML Signature in Apple Mail for El Capitan OS X 10.11 Wed, 10 Aug 2016 06:50:25 +0000 […]]]> There are plenty of tutorials online to create an HTML signature in Apple Mail with older versions of OS X, and you have probably already seen one of my own tutorials on how to add HTML Signatures in Lion, Mountain Lion, iOS 7, Mavericks or Yosemite, but the process has changed ever so slightly for the new OS X El Capitan (10.11). Here is how to do it:

In Apple Mail, go to Preferences > Signatures and create a signature with any random content. Name it something meaningful in the central column. You will be swapping this out later.

Associate the placeholder signature with one of your email accounts by dragging its name from the second column in the Preferences > Signatures window to an email account in the first column.

Close the Preferences window to save it, then quit Apple Mail.
We are going to need to locate the folder containing the placeholder signature. Unfortunately, you are not going to be able to use Finder to get to these folders.Apple goes to great lengths to hide these files from people as they usually contain info that is not editable by hand. Trying to navigate through by clicking in Finder will usually lead you to your visible iCloud Drive folder with nowhere to go. Don’t worry though, I will walk you through an alternative method of getting at those files. The files can be in 2 different places depending on whether you are using iCloud Drive or not. You are most likely using iCloud Drive, even if you are not using an iCloud email address. Check by going to System Preferences > iCloud, then seeing if the iCloud Drive checkbox is ticked or not.Using iCloud Drive:

~/Library/Mobile\ Documents/com~apple~mail/Data/V3/MailData/Signatures/

Not Using iCloud Drive:

Open, found in Applications > Utilities, paste the following line into the box and press enter

Using iCloud Drive:

ls -laht ~/Library/Mobile\ Documents/com~apple~mail/Data/V3/MailData/Signatures/

Not Using iCloud Drive:

ls -laht ~/Library/Mail/V3/MailData/Signatures/

This line tells Terminal to list all the files in this directory along with some other file info, then sort it by date. When you press enter you should see a bunch of lines, each of which corresponds to a file and some of its metadata. Look at the right side column — the file names — and notice some that start with ubiquitous_ and end in .mailsignature. These are the files we are interested in working with.

If you get an error, make sure you pasted the line in exactly like shown on one line. If you still get an error, try the next path on the list above.

As mentioned above, we could normally use Finder to view these folders, but Apple has hidden access to them to prevent direct editing, something we wish to do here. If you have only 1 ubiquitous mailsignature file, then this is most likely the placeholder file you created in step 1. If you have more than one mailsignature file in there, then you need to find the one you created in step 1. Because this list is sorted top-down by the most recently updated, it will most likely be the top one, but you can check by opening them all and seeing ther contents. does not respond to double-clicking the file so how can you open the mailsignature files? You can copy/paste the following command on the keyboard, all on one line.

Using iCloud Drive:

open -a TextEdit ~/Library/Mobile\ Documents/com~apple~mail/Data/V3/MailData/Signatures/ubiquitous_*.mailsignature

Not Using iCloud Drive:
open -a TextEdit ~/Library/Mail/V3/MailData/Signatures/*.mailsignature

This line tells Terminal to open all files in that directory that have a filename that starts with ubiquitous_ and ends with mailsignature, and to open them using the TextEdit application.

Once you have these files open in TextEdit, move on to next step.

When you created a temporary placeholder signature in step 1, Mail automatically created a ubiquitout_XXXXXXX.mailsignature file that represents it. This placeholder now should be open in TextEdit. If you have more than one ubiquitout_XXXXXXX.mailsignature files open in TextEdit, we have to find the right one amongst them now. To help ensure you have the right file, look the one you think is your placeholder in TextEdit. You should see the placeholder text you entered in step 1, along with other code and metadata.
Look for your placeholder text in the highlighted part shown in the image above. Here, we know we have the correct file because we can clearly see our placeholder text:“This is a placeholder.” If you cannot find the placeholder, you may still be in “edit” mode on the signature. Try closing the Mail > Preferences Window, quitting Apple Mail and opening the files using the process outlined in the previous step. If you still cannot find the placeholder, you may need to try one of the other folders from the above step.

When you have located the right placeholder .mailsignature file, keep it open and close all other TextEdit windows. Feel free to resize the window to make text editing a bit easier. You will see a few metadata lines on the top of the file and some html code below it. Select only the placeholder code

Keep the top metadata lines, but replace the html in the file with your own from step 2

Save and close the file.

If you are using iCloud Drive, skip this step and proceed to the next step. You can determine if you are using iCloud for Apple Mail by checking System Preferences > iCloud. Still unsure? Skip this step — you can redo the steps and include this one if your signature is not working correctly at the end.Even though you save this file, Apple Mail may use the original version and overwrite your new signature unless you lock the file. With your text editor now closed and the file saved, go back to terminal, enter the following line, and lock all the mailsignaturefiles in the folder.Lock Files:

chflags uchg ~/Library/Mail/V3/MailData/Signatures/*.mailsignature

If you mess up, you can unlock the files with this command.

Unlock Files:

chflags nouchg ~/Library/Mail/V3/MailData/Signatures/*.mailsignatureOpen Apple Mail and go back to Preferences > Signatures. If you have images in your signature, they will will not show here in the preview, but they will show in the real signature if the image source location is valid.

To test that it is working correctly, simply compose a new email using the account you associated this signature with in step 2, and set the signature (right side of screen) to be the one with the name you created in step 1. If the images show, and everything looks as it should, you have succeeded!

HOW TO PUBLISH YOUR BLOG POSTS TO SOCIAL MEDIA AUTOMATICALLY Mon, 25 Jul 2016 03:56:18 +0000 […]]]> So once you’ve created content on your WordPress blog, it can be a bit time consuming to go to each social media website and copy and paste the link over and over again to promote your content. If you’re looking for an easy way to publish your posts automatically to Google Plus, Facebook, Twitter, and other social media accounts, then I would recommend using the free WordPress plugin called Microblog Poster.

Microblog Poster publishes blog posts directly to social media. You can customize each post by what content to include, and what picture to post with the article, among other features. Supported social media accounts include:

  • – Auto-publish to your blog.
  • ( – Same as above.

By doing this, you are effectively saving time instead of copying and pasting links, signing in and out of each account, and wasting time that you could be doing something else.

First, go to Plugins in WordPress, and click in the upper left hand corner “New Plugin”. Search for “Microblog Poster” and it should be first link, the plugin author is Efficient Scripts.

Next, once the plugin has been installed and activated, navigate to the right side of your WP admin dashboard under “Settings”. You will then see a new option where you can modify the settings for the new plugin.

In the plugin details, click on Social Media accounts tab, then click on the button that says “add new account”.

Easily share posts to social media instantly

When you’re in the new add account section, for each account you’ll have to have access to the API key. The Microblog Poster requires this in order have access to post your half for each social media account, username and password just doesn’t cut it. They have excellent step-by-step guides on how to enable and signup for access to various social media API’s on their setup page, so it’s no use repeating what they already have there.

Once you authorize each API and provide access, you’re good to go! All of your future posts will be posted on social media on your behalf. It’s a pretty simple way to save time and not have to worry about social media at all when it comes to promoting your content, this plugin does all the hard work for you. You can modify the settings for the current default signature and not use it to auto sign your email messages. The alternative is to manually insert the signature in an email message. Or you can leave the settings for the current default signature in place and remove a signature from an open message. You also can create another signature to use as needed in your email messages.

    • To insert a signature manually, on the Insert tab, choose Signature, and then choose the signature you want to appear in the message.
    • To remove a signature from an open message, select the signature in the message body and press Delete.

Top Ten Tricks and Tips for the iPad Tue, 08 Dec 2015 05:01:03 +0000 […]]]> Whether you’re getting to know your new iPad or you are a long-time user, here are ten tricks and tips essential to getting the most out of your device:

    Quick Mute

Caught off guard and need to silence all sounds quickly? Instead of fumbling through your settings, just hold down your volume button for two seconds and voila, your iPad’s speakers will be muted.

While you might be used to grabbing screenshots on your iPhone, don’t forget it’s just as simple on your iPad. Of course, you’ll be rewarded with a much larger and handier 768×1024 resolution photo. Just push down the power button on top of the iPad at the same time as the home button for half a second. All screenshots will be saved to your photo library.

    Running Apps

A very simple, but often missed trick is to quickly view your iPad’s running applications. To do this, double tap your home button and all open applications will appear along the bottom of your screen. This is especially important if you find your iPad lagging or battery draining faster than normal. Press and hold down these icons until a red button appears, then scroll through, clicking the button to close desired programs. This feature can also be used on new iPhones and the iTouch.

    Screen Rotation Lock

Feel like lounging around with your iPad but are tired of your screen constantly rotating to accommodate your position? You can easily tell your screen to stay put in either landscape or portrait position by going to your general settings and selecting “Lock Rotation.” This enables you to switch the button on the side of your iPad to keep your screen in its current rotation.

    Digital Photo Frame

The default Photos app allows you to easily turn your photo collection into a slideshow; complete with the capacity to add music and transition effects. Even nicer, is the ability to start the slideshow without unlocking your device. After pressing the home button to wake it up, just tap the ‘Picture Frame’ icon next to the unlock button and your iPad will instantly become a digital photo frame. The app Settings will let you control the speed of the slideshow, as well as zoom and shuffle options.

    Enable Restrictions

If other people are going to be using your iPad and you’d like to restrict what applications they can use, just select Settings > General > Restrictions. You’ll then be able to put in a passcode and control which content other users will be able to access.

    Default Search Engine

Your iPad will come with Google set as its default search engine but should you wish to change it, go to ‘Safari’ under your settings menu. By selecting Search Engine you’ll be able to switch to either Yahoo or Bing.

    Punctuation Shortcuts

While using the keyboard, quickly swipe up on the comma button to insert an apostrophe and up on the full stop button to insert a quotation mark. You can also hold down any letter key to bring up accented versions of that letter. Pressing the space bar twice will automatically insert a full stop followed by a space, allowing for a faster and easier start on your next sentence.

    Undo and Redo by Shaking

If you accidentally cut out some text, while using such apps as Mail or Notes, it’s possible to undo your last action by tapping the Undo key on the Number keyboard. Likewise, you can redo something by switching to the Symbol keyboard and tapping the Redo key.

A quicker (and fun!) alternative is to hold your iPad with both hands and give it a quick shake, sliding the Undo button out for you to select. To redo something, simply shake your iPad again and the Redo button will appear.

    Multitasking Gestures

Navigating between screens and applications on your iPad can be made much easier by turning on Multitasking Gestures. You can find this option by scrolling down through your General Settings. Once activated, you’ll be able to see the functions now available to you — most useful is the four finger sweep left and right to flip through running applications.

Getting Started with Video Content for a Blog Tue, 08 Dec 2015 04:57:44 +0000 […]]]> Blogging has changed in numerous ways since it began to gain widespread popularity over a decade ago and one of the biggest changes during that time has got to be the steady transition towards video content.

Traditionally blogs were always a text-based medium, but as connection speeds have increased and streaming online video gradually became the norm – having video content on blogs in the form of embedded streams has certainly caught on. After all, you only need to host the video on YouTube or some other similar platform and then paste the embed code into your blog – what could be easier?

    Planning the Content

Of course the tough part about developing video content for a blog isn’t embedding the video but actually creating it in the first place. And before you can even start to record, you need to plan the type of content you’re going to create.

Some of the common types of video content that do well on blogs are:

    • Instructional ‘how to’ video guides and tutorials that help show viewers how to perform a certain task or procedure.
    • Product reviews or ‘unboxing’ videos that go over a particular product and show viewers what it is all about and what its features are.
    • Interviews with ‘authorities’ and experts that give viewers the opportunity to find out qualified opinions about certain topics.

Depending on the niche you’re in, you may find that one type of content is more suitable than the rest. Whatever content you do eventually settle on, you should then either script out the video or at very least outline what you intend it to encompass.

    Creating the Video

Once you do actually get round to recording the video footage that you need and creating the video – you’ll find that there are lots of options you can pursue. For example, you could capture the video footage directly from your screen (which is particularly suitable for some types of video guides) or you could record it from a webcam.

Also, there are countless other areas that you need to look into as well, such as the background music, voiceover, special effects and filters, transitions, and much more. In fact it is safe to say that you will want to edit and trim out unwanted parts of your video as well – and then maybe even re-record some parts too until you’re satisfied.

While all this may feel a little bit daunting, with the right software it really doesn’t have to be. The Movavi Screen Capture Studio will let you screen grab video footage and then edit it to perfection by jazzing it up and polishing it to look professional. The best part is that it is so intuitive that you’ll be able to use it even if you have no prior experience.

Using the Movavi Screen Capture Studio will give you access to its features that include the ability to cut the videos you capture into multiple parts to get rid of unwanted segments or reorganize them, enhance the video quality, and add subtitles as well as background music, and all the special effects or filters you could desire.

When you’re done you can even automatically optimize your video for specific devices or platforms – even if you don’t know the first thing about video formats or settings. Just choose one of the hundreds of presets that are available and let the software do the rest.

If you take the time to plan your content and make sure that you also keep tweaking and editing your video until it’s just right you should definitely be able to come up with the kind of videos that your blog readers will appreciate.

How to Unlock iPhone 4/4S for free running on iOS 5.0 or above using SAM

Now you don’t need to search how to unlock iPhone 4/4S anymore because we have a way out for you by which you can unlock any iPhone 4/4S on any baseband using the Subscriber Artificial Module- SAM. This method will work for every iPhone running iOS 5.0 or above. We have tested it on devices running on iOS 5.0 and above ourselves and it works.

Before following the procedure for “How to unlock iPhone 4/4S for free” we would like to tell you two important points:

    1. First of all you will need a jailbroken iPhone 4/4S.

    2. Secondly, this is a SIM specific unlock. It means that once you unlock your iPhone 4/4S using a specific SIM that the iPhone would stay unlocked to that specific SIM only. You will not be able to use it with any other SIM card.

So here are the steps you need to follow to unlock iPhone 4/4S for free:

STEP 1: Launch Cydia and add this repo:, after adding the repo search for SAM and install it. Even if you have installed SAM on your iPhone 4/4S , it is highly recommended that you should reinstall it.

STEP 2: SAM will create a SAMPrefs icon on your home screen, once it is installed, just tap it.

STEP 3: Select “De-Activate iPhone” after going to utilities, your ActivationState should now be “Unactivated” under “More Information.”

STEP 4: Before following this step you need to make sure that SAM is “enabled.” Select “By Country and Carrier” in “Method”; then search your carrier. For some carriers operating on more than one Carrier ID you may need to select “SIM ID”; since iTunes will not be activated if the wrong IMSI is selected.

STEP 5: Now navigate to More Information and write down or copy the IMSI in “SAM Details”, then tap “Spoof Real SIM to SAM”.

STEP 6: Change your “Method” to manual by returning to the main SAM screen. Enter the IMSI number you saved in the last step or just copy it.

STEP 7: Now you need to connect your iPhone to your PC and launch iTunes, iTunes will now be activated on your iPhone. At the main device screen you need to Double click the “Phone Number” parameter and make sure that the ICCID matches to your SIM card, if it doesn’t then you need to start again from Step 3.

STEP 8: Now close iTunes and unplug your phone from PC.

STEP 9: Disable SAM or you can uninstall it (Uninstalling is not necessary).

STEP 10: Connect your iPhone to iTunes again; you will see an error message saying that your phone cannot be activated. Don’t Panic, this is good news for you. Just close the iTunes and open it again.

STEP 11: You will see signal bars in a few seconds. Congratulations, you have unlocked your iPhone 4/4S for free.

After following the steps, Push notifications may stop working, but can be restored easily with “clear push” utility in SAM followed by connecting to iTunes.

Save everything located in /var/root/Library/Lockdown/ and you’re good to go.

How to Unlock iPhone 6/6 Plus

SAM unlock method may or may not work with iPhone 6/6 Plus. So, it is not recommended to use that method to unlock your iPhone.

Unlock iPhone 6/6 Plus using Keys2iPhone

The website for keys2iPhone can be used to unlock iPhone 6/6s but it is not easy to use, the customer support of their website takes long time to reply and is not polite when they do.They also don’t use many major payment methods that you are used to.

Unlock iPhone 6/6 Plus using IMEI Codes

IMEI Unlocking is done when someone having access to the IMEI database changes your iPhone’s status to unlock from locked. IMEI codes can also be used to unlock iPhone 6/6s but their customer service is also not good. It took my friend 2 phone calls and 4 emails and to find out if his order has been confirmed or not.

How to Change your iPhone or iPad Root Password Mon, 07 Dec 2015 02:58:22 +0000 […]]]> Many people still believe that jailbreaking an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad is a harmful thing to do. This is not entirely false, in the past, I have seen many people getting their jailbroken iOS device hacked or unauthorized access. As the result, some of their important data was stolen. On the brighter side, not every user who jailbreak their iPhone and iPad will face this issue.

From personal experiences and research, a jailbroken device is actually more secure than an iPhone or iPad that isn’t. Why? Because there are jailbreak tweaks that allow you to set a passcode on individual applications, lock certain features, and much more. As long as you’re aware of what you are installing then nothing bad will happen.

Keep in mind that adding pirated sources and downloading cracked packages is another well-known way of getting hacked. Recently, there was a malware called KeyRaider that targeted Jailbroken devices, especially the one that has pirated tweaks installed.

Besides avoiding piracy to secure your device, users can also change the root password of their jailbroken device to further protect their iPhone and iPad.

Change Root Password for iPhone on Windows

    1. Launch Cydia and Install OpenSSH
    2. On your computer, download PuTTY (a free SSH client for Windows)
    3. Write down the IP Address of your device. This can be done by going to Settings > WiFi > the letter “i” next to your Wi-Fi network
    4. Open PuTTY and type in your IP Address.
    5. The terminal will ask you a question, just type Yes and your login as root
    6. You will be asked for the default password and it’s alpine
    7. To change the root password to something else, enter passwd and type in your new password

There is two type of passwords on your iPhone and iPad. We also recommend that you change the mobile password too and the command line for that is passwd mobile and enter the new one twice.

Change Root Password Right on Your iPhone

If you don’t want to download another software on your computer or just for whatever reasons unable to change your iPhone root password on Windows or even Mac, you have another option. Mobile Terminal is a free jailbreak tweak Cydia that operates just like PuTTY right from your iOS device.

    1. Go on Cydia
    2. Using the Search option, type in MobileTerminal and install it
    3. Restart Springboard
    4. Follow the given command lines above to change the root password of your jailbroken iOS device.

When done, simply close the Terminal and you are good to go. Don’t forget to keep these passwords in a safe place even though you will rarely going to use them.

How would you change iPad multitasking? Mon, 07 Dec 2015 02:24:57 +0000 […]]]> Slide over, split view, and picture-in-picture are great in iOS 9, but how could Apple make them even better in iOS 10?

The original iPad ran “iPhone OS”, which shows how tightly coupled Apple’s tablets have been with their phones. A few multitasking navigation gestures aside, it remained that way until iOS 9 introduced several new features specifically for the iPad. That includes slide over and split view apps, and picture-in-picture video. They’re a huge step forward, but also a first step. So what would you like to see changed in iOS 10?

    • More efficient app switcher for slide over and secondary (right) apps.
    • More consistent app switcher for split view and primary (left) apps.
    • Ability to quickly swap apps from primary (left) to secondary (right).
    • Drag-and-drop content between primary (left) and secondary (right) apps.
    • 30/70 split view with narrow primary (left) app.
    • 50/50 split view in portrait mode.
    • Horizontal split view for portrait mode.
    • Multiple instances of same app (i.e. two Safari windows) in split view.
    • Picture-in-picture-style remote view for apps.

I’ve long wanted iPad to benefit from iPadOS the way Watch and TV benefit from watchOS and tvOS. Multi-app multitasking brings that dream closer to reality, at least for apps if not for Home screen.

The challenge is to do it in such a way that it maintains accessibility and approachability for the mainstream. That adds capability without undue complexity. But iOS 10 (iOS X) is less than a year away, so what do you want from multi-app multitasking?
