iOS & Android – indscoop Technology News, Entertaiment Thu, 19 Apr 2018 03:21:50 +0000 en-US hourly 1 114420553 All About Apple iPad Pro 10.5 inch : Can replace the laptop Mon, 31 Jul 2017 06:39:08 +0000 […]]]> Apple iPad Pro 10.5-inch review: iPad Pro 10.5-inch is a new size for the series. Apple might well phase out the smaller 9.7-inch version as this new size gains ground. The new size offers more real estate, especially since it has a thinner bezel than the earlier version.

The iPad has for long been lording over the tablet segment. But now, even as tablet sales across the world have plateaued, Apple wants the iPad to start replacing laptops of creative users. But can a really powerful tablet take on the likes of the MacBook Pro and offer a better option? Well, this is exactly what I set to figure out with the new iPad Pro 10.5-inch which has just hit the markets.

Apple iPad Pro 10.5-inch specifications:

10.5-inch display with 2224 x 1668 resolution at 264 ppi | A10X Fusion 4th chip with 64-bit | 64GB, 256GB, 512GB | 12MP rear camera with f/1.8 aperture, Quad-LED True Tone flash, 4K video recording + 7MP front camera | iOS 11 | Four speaker audio | Wi‑Fi (802.11a/b/g/n/ac); dual band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) MIMO | Bluetooth 4.2 | Nano-SIM

The Apple iPad Pro 10.5-inch is a new size for the series. Apple might well phase out the smaller 9.7-inch version as this new size gains ground. The new size offers more real estate, especially since it has a thinner bezel than the earlier version. In fact, the overall size is not that different, but the impact on screen size is significant. Still the 10.5-inch form factor is easy to manage and use. The rest of the design remains the same.

The one visible hardware change the new iPad Pro ushers in is with display quality. While this too is a Retina display like before, this has an unprecedented 120Hz refresh rate. That is something seen only on high-end televisions and never before on any sort of mobile screen. But what does this mean for the user?

Well, to start with this is a much better, more natural experience, when it comes to watching high quality videos or playing games. The frames have no lag in between, however high the quality of the graphics in the game. On the productivity front this means the Apple Pencil works more naturally too. The millisecond lag in the earlier version is no longer there and the experience is more like pencil on paper, though I still think the Apple Pencil is more marble than wood for my liking.

As a side note, I need to add that the Apple iPad Pro is still the gold standard when it comes to audio quality on anything mobile. Pair the stunning screen and speakers together and you have arguably the best mobile video consumption device in the world at the moment.

Apple iPad Pro 10.5-inch performance review

The iPad Pro might be a good video consumption device, but Apple seems to be pitching this more as a video creation device. The 64-bit A10X Fusion chip works in tandem with an M10 coprocessor to offer professional grade performance on a one-pound device. At the launch, the company wowed everyone by doing stuff on the iPad Pro that a MacBook Pro wont be able to do all that easily. For average users this means doing everyday tasks without any lag, or editing photos realtime with no wait for the corrected images to render. However, if you want to edit video, or create and add graphics to the same, this is the only tablet in the world that will be able to do it.

While my creativity is limited to text, I did check out with some more creative people on how the iPad Pro improved their productivity and even those using the version of the iPad Pro seemed to think this version was far better. With apps like Procreate you can now do Adobe Photoshop level layered editing on the iPad Pro and the results are visible almost instantaneous, no need to wait for a render. This nimbleness is there even when you edit video or add graphics to it.

Apple iPad Pro 10.5-inch battery review

The new iPad Pro has a slightly bigger battery than the 9.5-inch version. But despite the extra bright screen and faster refresh rate, the iPad is able to offer close to a full working day of life on the trot. In fact, I charged the review unit for the first time after a week of random use. Also power efficiency is where the M10 coprocessor does most of its work.

In fact the A10x processor is not even called to work for a lot of tasks like notification updates or email syncing and this helps save power. Plus, the display redress rate falls drastically if you are not watching video or playing a game. However, I think Apple should maybe offer a stamina mode where it can offer longer battery life for those who need it.

Apple iPad Pro 10.5-inch accessories

The Apple iPad Pro comes with two accessories — Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard — that add to its productivity. However, both of these have not got a refresh with the new iPad Pro, except for the new size of the Magic Keyboard. However, the experience of using the Apple Pencil has improved significantly thanks to the higher refresh rate of the screen. It now makes better sense to buy the Apple Pencil than a year before. I just hope Apple offers add-ons to the pencil that make it feel more natural. The keyboard is the same, and takes time getting used to. I prefer using a third-party one with more travel than Apple can offer.

The one accessory that is new is the Apple sleeve, which finally bring in a case to stash away the iPad and a slot to secure the Pencil. Earlier, managing the Pencil was a bit of a pain.

Xiaomi launches MIUI 9 with improved features and performance Sat, 29 Jul 2017 06:47:06 +0000 […]]]> The MIUI 9 has a faster app loading time due to its ability to boost performance

Chinese tech-giant Xiaomi has launched the MIUI 9, the highly anticipated upgraded version of its MI user interface.

The MIUI 9 will be based on Android Nougat. Over and above the basic features of Android Nougat the newer version has a faster app loading time. It also provides the user with a much more improvised and fluid experience due to its improved resource allocation.

Its main highlight is the “image search” feature by which the user can distinguish between images by simply typing in keywords. The smart assistant feature is another speciality that will aid the user in searching anything in the device.

Important options like ‘search’, ‘app suggestions’ and ‘news’ alongside other customised pages are similar to Apple’s spotlight feature in the iOS and are easily accessible by simply swiping the home screen.

The new version also brings three new themes and a default theme with new features including a redesigned lock screen and a new shortcut by which the torch can be activated directly by swiping on the lockscreen.

Xiaomi says that currently some features will only be available in China but the global version will not be very far off.

The Xiaomi Mi 5X will be the first phone to use the new user interface which will be launched on August 11 followed by Mi 6 and Redmi Note 4X.

The company aims to use the beta version on other models like Mi MIX, Mi Note 2, Mi 5, Mi 5s Plus, Mi 5c, Mi Max, Mi 4S, Mi 4c, Mi Note Pro and Redmi 4X once the second phase is rolled out on 25 August.

The 10 Coolest Smartwatches of 2017 (So Far) Wed, 19 Jul 2017 09:50:57 +0000 […]]]> Wearables are shifting focus as major platforms like WatchOS and Android Wear pivot toward fitness and health applications, according to research firm IDC.

Consumers have seen this over the past six months as the top wearable vendors, including Samsung, Omron and Fitbit, released new fitness products at CES and Mobile World Congress.

“Like any technology market, the wearables market is changing,” said Ramon Llamas, research manager at IDC’s Wearables division, in a statement. “Basic wearables started out as single-purpose devices tracking footsteps and are morphing into multipurpose wearable devices, fusing together multiple health and fitness capabilities and smartphone notifications.”

Here are 10 of the coolest wearables in 2017 so far.

1. Apple Watch Series 2

Apple’s newest generation of its Watch Series 2, released in September 2016, has built-in GPS, water resistance of up to 50 meters, and a display that the company said is two times brighter than its previous generation.

The Series 2 is designed for health and fitness with a heart-rate sensor, third-party health apps and activity tracking features. The Apple Watch Series 2 is available starting at $369.

2. BACTrack Mobile

BACtrack wants to help consumers keep their alcohol intake in mind with a new wearable device. With BACtrack’s wearable, first launched at CES, users can monitor their alcohol intake right from their wrist. This smartphone breathalyzer connects to user smartphones through Bluetooth, enabling them to easily estimate their alcohol level and drink responsibly. BACtrack is currently available for $99, according to the San Francisco-based company.

3. Casio WSD-F20 Smartwatch

Tokyo-based Casio revealed its newest rugged watch, the Casio WSD-F20, at this year’s CES. The smartwatch is also built for outdoor enthusiasts — with a MIL-STD-801G rating for protection and waterproof capabilities of up to 50 meters. The Android Wear-powered WSD-F20, which is available for $499, also contains a low-power GPS sensor, as well as support for color maps, and can operate both online and offline.

4. Fitbit Alta HR

Fitbit in March unveiled the availability of its new Alta HR, a wearable that touts features like continuous heart-rate tracking, sleep tracking and exercise recognition. Fitbit also added new software features to its latest wearable, including Sleep Stages and Sleep Insights to help consumers better understand their sleeping habits. Fitbit Alta HR, which the company said has a battery life of up to 10 days, is available for $149 with a classic band.

5. Omron Project Zero 2.0

Japan-based Omron showcased its next-generation prototype wearable, Project Zero 2.0, at CES this year. Project Zero 2.0 is an ultra-compact wearable wrist device that measures blood pressure and tracks health data like sleep patterns. This wearable is essentially a wrist blood pressure monitor that connects to a complementary Omron app so users can track and share vital data with their health-care providers. Omron Project Zero 2.0 is still in its prototype stage, and its final specs and pricing will be released once FDA clearance has been received.

6. Quell

Quell, first launched at CES this year, is a wearable device that helps those who suffer from chronic pain by using electrical stimulation to trigger a response in the brain, ultimately blocking pain signals. The device, worn on the upper calf, is ultimately five times more powerful than other over-the-counter pain relief devices, according to its developer, Waltham, Mass.-based NeuroMetrix. The company launched the second generation of the FDA-cleared device at CES, and it’s now available for $249.

7. Reliefband Neurowave

Horsham, Pa.-based Relief Band Technologies launched the next generation of its wristband, the Reliefband Neurowave, at this year’s CES. The Reliefband Neurowave delivers small electrical pulses that relieve a user’s nausea. Improvements to the new generation of the device include the addition of more settings for getting a precise level for the pulse and a change in the design of the device so that it’s smaller and sleeker. The device is expected to be available in the second quarter of 2017. Pricing hasn’t been finalized but it’s expected to be in the range of $150 to $160.

8. Samsung Gear S3

Samsung released its Gear S3 smartwatch November 2016. The Gear S3 includes two models – the Classic and the Frontier. These two versions have some key differences including size and weight. Samsung said both are water-resistant and can get up to four days of battery on a single charge. The Gear S3 is available starting at $349.

9. Vert Intensity Tracker

Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based wearable athletic company Vert is taking wearables to the next level with its G-Vert product – a module that users wear around their waist. The company said its product, which was launched at CES, is the first multi-appendage monitor to track how long and hard athletes are exercising in real time.

The module can track asymmetry in the user’s motion, helping to prevent injuries, as well as track exerted power and the height of jumps. G-Vert is available for $149.

15 Upcoming Features for iPhone 7 Tue, 06 Sep 2016 06:29:32 +0000 […]]]> The iPhone 7 is almost here . The KGI Securities analyst (widely regarded as “the best Apple analyst on the planet”) has revealed 15 major changes coming to both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus

Obtained by AppleInsider, the list reads as follows:

 1. New True Tone displays like the iPad Pro range, with laser based proximity sensors for faster response times
 2. 32GB, 128GB and 256GB storage tiers will replace 16GB, 64GB and 128GB
 3. 2x 12MP dual rear camera limited to iPhone 7 Plus, uses 1x wide angle and 1x telephoto lenses
 4. Upgraded ambient light sensors on both new iPhone cameras for better low light shots
 5. Camera flash LEDs doubled from two to four with warm and cool colours
 6. 3.5mm headphone jack removed
 7. Lightning EarPods and a 3.5mm to Lightning headphone adaptor included in the box
 8. Second external speaker and integrated amplifier for louder, richer output
 9. Basic IPX7 water resistance – both phones can withstand splashes and full submersion for up to 30 minutes. Not quite Galaxy S7 level (one hour+), but close.
 10. 2GB RAM for iPhone 7, 3GB RAM for iPhone 7 Plus
 11. Next generation A10 chipset sees CPUs hit 2.45GHz clock speeds and 20-30% performance gains
 12. 3D Touch 2.0 sensor with more distinct haptic feedback
 13. Home button replaced with non-clicking touch sensor with haptic feedback
 14. Antenna bands removed from the back of both models for cleaner look
 15. Two new colours: dark black and piano black (latter in limited quantities for 256GB model); space grey colour option ended

Breaking Down The Key Points

While the new colour options, reduced antenna bands, louder speaker and fixed home button are welcome upgrades, the real talking points here are the upgraded cameras, storage and removal of the headphone jack.

The last of these now seems virtually guaranteed since I first broke the news of Apple’s long term strategy in June 2014. Convincing users that the pros outweigh the obvious cons will be the key factor to the long term success of both new iPhones – especially without wireless charging now wired charging and wired headphones share the same port.

That said the upgraded storage and cameras are also very welcome and go hand-in-hand. If Apple is going to sell the idea that the new iPhones have the world’s best smartphone cameras then they need to come with more storage so people can take full advantage of them. If Apple follows through on both these claims it will be great news.

Android 5.0 Lollipop vs. Apple iOS 8 Head-to-Head Sun, 01 Feb 2015 15:37:10 +0000 […]]]> The smartphone technology has taken the world by storm and almost everyone across the globe is embracing this technology with companies taking advantage of the market with some amazing products, both in the lower end and upper end of the economic spectrum

Many users of Android devices have claimed that the new iPhone 6 models are not the best models there is in the current smartphone market. One area many have noted where top flagships in Android beat the top flagship for Apple is the RAM capacity. While the new iPhone 6 models are equipped with a RAM capacity of just 1 GB, you’ll find the top models in the Android niche like Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 4 and HTC One M8 with superior RAM capacities that range from 2 GB to 3 GB.

It is very easy to say that the users of Android devices are ignorant of the fact that these devices are not just about the specs they are equipped with, it’s more to do with the operating system they come with. A quick analysis of the two operating systems reveals that the Android 5.0 Lollipop is a poor memory manager when compared to iOS 8, a factor that very many Android users are missing.

Android 5.0 Lollipop consumes more memory and power

As you may have noticed, it is very easy to judge the iPhone 6 models as poor or inferior, based on the capacity of RAM it has. This is because it can also be very easy to judge that a device with a RAM capacity of 1GB is definitely slower than a device running on 2 GB or 3 GB of RAM.

This is not the case with the two operating systems included in the loop as the efficiency brought into play by the iOS 8 is far much better and it is nothing similar to what users of Android 5.0 Lollipop get. This is because the new Android Lollipop mobile OS makes use of mobile applications in a totally different way when compared to iOS 8, something that makes it consume more power and use up more memory as well.

Apple’s iOS 8 and Google’s Android 5.0 Lollipop remain to be the latest operating systems in the mobile phone niche and with these two OS, users will be treated to some amazing features as well as performances they have never experienced in past versions of the OS. However, it is clear that the iOS 8 users have an edge over the Android Lollipop users when it comes to performance, efficiency and memory management.

How to Jailbreak iOS 6 / iPhone 5 With Evasi0n Thu, 10 Oct 2013 16:33:46 +0000 […]]]> Now that the evasi0n jailbreak has arrived, the software is proving to be the most popular jailbreak in history. Any iOS device running iOS 6.0 – 6.1 can be included in the fun with a few simple steps. Once the Cydia jailbreak app store is installed, free and paid packages can be downloaded to customize your device and add functionality.

For those who have jailbroken their pre-iOS 6 devices in the past, evasi0n brings even more convenience and simplicity to the jailbreak process. The software comes to us from the evad3rs, developers who have already released two updates to evasi0n to incorporate improvements and bug fixes.

To jailbreak any iPhone, iPad or iPod touch running iOS 6, iOS 6.0.1, iOS 6.0.2 or iOS 6.1 with evasi0n follow these steps:

1. If you’re running iOS 6.1 save your SHSH blobs using Tiny Umbrella. Findinstructions on how to prepare for evasi0n with Tiny Umbrella here.

2. Back up your device using iTunes.

3. Download the latest version of evasi0n for Windows, OS X or Linux from theofficial evasi0n website.

4. Make sure Passcode Lock is turned OFF on your device. Navigate to Settings -> General -> Passcode Lock to turn this off.

5. Open the evasi0n archive on your computer and run the evasi0n application.
6. If you haven’t already, plug your iOS device into the computer using the USB cable.
7. Once your device is detected, click the Jailbreak button.

8. Evasi0n will perform the steps needed to jailbreak your device. DO NOT touch your device or use iTunes while these steps are in progress!
9. When prompted by evasi0n, find the Jailbreak icon on your iOS home screen.
10. Run the Jailbreak app. Make sure to only tap the Jailbreak icon once. The remainder of the jailbreak process will occur on your iOS device. You should see the evasi0n logo on your Apple device.
11. When the process is finished, you will see the message Jailbreak complete! Once your iOS 6.x device stops rebooting you can move on to the next step.

12. Find the Cydia icon on your iOS device home screen. Tap to launch the Cydia app.

13. Cydia will prepare the filesystem. After your iOS device completes this process, you can open Cydia to download, install and manage independently-developed packages and tweaks to your jailbroken device.

14. Don’t forget to turn Passcode Lock back on if you use a passcode for security!

How to fix iPhone Wi-Fi connection problems Thu, 10 Oct 2013 13:33:00 +0000 […]]]> Some users have reported issues with slow speeds or trouble connecting to Wi-Fi networks with iPhone OS 3.0 and later firmware. iPhone owners who have jailbroken and/or unlocked their iPhones using blackra1n and blacksn0w have also reported problems.

These problems include the inability to connect to Wi-Fi, 3G and/or Edge, lack of push notifications and issues with the YouTube application. Fortunately there are several fixes you can try to correct these data issues on your iPhone:

1. Reset network settings. Touch Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings.

2. Still having problems? Touch Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset All Settings. Warning: You will loose all of your preferences.

3. For YouTube problems on jailbroken iPhones try installing youtubeFix from Cydia or another package installer.

4. Restore your iPhone as a new phone. This is a slow and tedious process but will reset your iPhone as if it was new from the factory. Although this should fix all of the above issues, you will have to reload your contacts and media onto the iPhone from the computer manually. To restore:

– Connect your iPhone to the computer.
– Run iTunes.
– Under the Summary tab select Restore.
– Select backup if you wish. When restoring as a new iPhone you will not use the backup.
– When the process is complete the iPhone will restart.
– When the Set Up You iPhone screen appears select Set up as a new iPhone.

Of course, after restoring a jailbroken iPhone you will lose the jailbreak and unlock functionality.

iPHONE 5 UPDATE: There are limited circumstances where iPhone 5 users are experiencing slow speeds or intermittent service when connected to Wi-Fi. There are two fixes that might help.

1. Entering manual DNS settings has been reported to help. Navigate to Settings -> Wi-Fi and touch the blue arrow next to your connected Wi-Fi network. Touch DNS and enter Google’s DNS server address (either or

2. Router compatibility issues could mean that WPA2 Personal W-Fi security is causing the problem. Switching to WEP security or removing password security altogether can improve Wi-Fi speeds and connectivity.
