Yu’s CyanogenMod-running Yuphoria phone, sold primarily to the Indian market, has CM12.1 (the customized version of Android 5.1) available for almost half a year now. The catch is that it’s been available as a CyanogenMod nightly build, requiring end users to flash a custom recovery, then a custom ROM in order to access it. Yesterday the Cyanogen company and Yu itself announced the over-the-air rollout of the finished, consumer-ready update for the stock software build.
The YOG4PAS47N build is Android 5.1.1/Cyanogen OS 12.1 (the official updates from the incorporated company lose the -Mod suffix). To upgrade, users need to be running the latest version of the retail software, YNG1TBS2P2. A Yu representative says that manually flashable fastboot files will be released, but only after the over-the-air rollout is completed – probably to let the earliest upgraders test for bugs or broken features. One user has posted an OTA ZIP file at Android File Host. Note that we can’t verify that particular source, so flash at your own risk.
In addition to the extra features in 5.1, the update includes a redesigned launcher, a new “smart screen” function for automatically adjusting screen settings, combined calendar and email, a wider range of media codec support, and a new version of AudioFX.
