While Micromax has been selling plenty of handsets and doing well with its Yu Televentures brand, there’s an old problem that seems to have shown up that has now delayed the launch of its Yu Yutopia flagship smartphone.

The old problem as Livemint reports is Ericsson who was in a tug of war with Micromax over payment of loyalties for use of their radio patents. While the dispute was settled in court and Micromax agreed to pay to the tune of Rs 55 crore, it turns out that Micromax didn’t include its subsidiary Yu Televentures in the same.

The Delhi Court on 2 December jumped back on the issue stating that its November 2014 injunction applies to the Micromax subsidiary Yu Televentures as well. And this has in turn led to another hearing for which Micromax will have to appear in court on 15 December.

For now, YU Televentures’ Rahul Sharma simply tweeted out the following, stating that launch has been delayed without providing any reasons for the same. The launch of the Yu Yutopia smartphone has been pushed from 7 December to 17 December for now.

The Micromax versus Ericsson patent case was indeed the largest one of its kind in India’s IT and telecom space. Ericsson claimed that Micromax had consistently refused to license standards essential patents related to 3G, GSM and EDGE technologies that are owned by the company.
